III. ENTERPRISE RENTAL CAR PROGRAM AND CHANGES TO
MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT
The Virginia Office of Fleet Management Services has partnered with Enterprise
Rent-a-Car to provide short term rental cars for state agencies. This
agreement impacts reimbursement of mileage for trips more than 100 miles
per day. Click here
for the Travel website, then click on Mileage Reimbursement Changes 2007
for a summary of the new policies. Travelers are required to access the
Enterprise Trip Calculator at http://www.dgs.virginia.gov/fleet.aspx
when planning a trip that involves traveling more than 100 miles per day.
In most cases a traveler will be reimbursed for the cost of an Enterprise
rental vehicle and gas or mileage at the fleet rate.
An Enterprise Guide provides details and is available at the Mason Travel Office. Reimbursement policy for mileage less than 100 miles per day is unchanged.
The new Enterprise agreement also offers a 10% discount on airport rentals
and a 5% discount on non-airport rentals outside of Virginia when traveling
on University business. A discount for personal usage is also available
to Mason employees. Links are available on the George Mason University
page of the Enterprise web site, http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/deeplinkmap.do?bid=028&refId=GEOMASO
IV. TELEWORK
A Driving Need To Telework? In these days of high cost gasoline and congested roads, it may be a good time to think about if you or your staff may benefit from teleworking. The beauty of teleworking is that it can be tailored to the needs of the employee as well as those of the department. So, if you are interested in teleworking or if you are already informally doing so by working from home (or other alternate location) at least one day a week, visit the HR & Payroll telework website @ http://hr.gmu.edu/worklife/flex. There you will find helpful information as well as the contract that must be completed for teleworking to be authorized by the university. Additional information is available on the technical side of telework such as virtual private network access (VPN) (key if you are working from an alternate location and dealing with sensitive information) on the HR & Payroll site or directly at ITU's Enabling Telework site. If you have any questions, please contact worklife@gmu.edu.
V. GUARENTEED RIDE HOME (GRH) PROGRAM
The GRH program designed for employees who rideshare (carpool/vanpool), use mass transit (bus, train), bicycle, or walk to work at least two times a week. It is absolutely free to sign-up for and free to use. Once you register you can use the GRH service up to four times a year. Your year will begin once you register for the program. If a qualifying emergency arises (such as sudden illness of a family member, school closing, etc.) on a day that you use an alternative commute mode to get to work, call Commuter Connections @ 1-800-745-RIDE and select option #2. Commuter Connections will send a taxi cab out to George Mason to pick you up! IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU REGISTER FOR THE GRH PROGRAM PRIOR TO USING THIS SERVICE! To learn more about GRH or to register, please click here.
VI. COMMUTER CONNECTIONS RIDE MATCHING

If you live or work in the Metropolitan Washington D.C. area, Commuter Connections will help you find other commuters in the area you live who make a similar commute as yourself who you can carpool or vanpool with.
