Parking – Spring 2022 Parking Permits

2022 Spring semester parking permits are on sale ONLINE ONLY.

  • Permits will be sold only as daily, weekly, monthly, and semester options.

  • As a reminder, Fall semester permits for students are now valid until January 23.  Faculty and staff permits are valid until January 31.  Faculty and staff with a payroll deduction permit DO NOT need to renew their current permit.  Spring permits will be valid until August 15, 2022 (for students) or August 31, 2022 (for faculty and staff). Separate summer permits will be available for sale for those without a spring permit.

Shuttles – Spring 2022 Shuttle Service

Spring service will begin on Monday, January 24 for all routes except the On-Demand shuttle. An overview of shuttle schedule changes (PDF) from the fall semester is available.

Shuttles

  • Check the Mason Shuttles page for Spring 2022 semester schedules.
  • Click on the route name at the top and select the schedule.
  • Some routes may have weekday and weekend schedules.
  • Shuttles are free to students and employees. Mason IDs are required
  • Every bus is outfitted with a bike rack and Wi-Fi.
  • Masks are required at all times on Mason Shuttles.
  • No guest riders until further notice.

Mason Shuttles uses a real-time transit service called RideSystems. Download the RideSystems app or visit the track your shuttle website to see when the next shuttle is arriving. The real-time arrival info for shuttles and local public transportation can also be viewed in the Mobile Mason app.

Sandy Creek – Vienna Metro shuttle

  • Operates from the Fairfax Campus to the Vienna Metro station, and runs continuously with buses every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Friday. Prior to 7 a.m., please use the CUE bus.
  • Last departure from Sandy Creek at 10:30 p.m.; last departure from Vienna Metro at 11 p.m.
  • There is no weekend service during the spring semester.
  • Student Townhouses on Chain Bridge Road has been added as a new shuttle stop.

 Fairfax-Science and Technology Campus shuttle

  • Provides service between the Fairfax Campus and the Science and Technology Campus (Prince William).
  • Shuttle service Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m.-11:35 p.m., with departures every 40 minutes for most of the day. Last departure from Sandy Creek (Fairfax) at 10:15 p.m.; last departure from Colgan (SciTech) at 11:35 p.m.
  • Weekend service every two hours is also available for the Fairfax-Science and Technology (SciTech) shuttle.
  • Manassas Mall shuttle stop is located between doors 3 and 4 (between Wal-Mart and the former Sears). Park’n’ride parking is available at the Mall in designated areas only.
  • Commuters also have the option to park at the Science and Technology Campus with a valid parking permit or use Pay-by-Space visitor parking and ride the shuttle.

Burke Centre VRE shuttle

  • Provides a connection between the VRE and Fairfax Campus.
  • Free parking is located at the Burke Centre VRE garage and may be used as a park N ride lot. Students and employees that live in the Burke area can walk or bike to catch the shuttle.
  • No midday service during the Spring 2022 semester.

Gunston Go-Bus

  • Provides service between the RAC, Rappahannock River Lane, Masonvale, Sandy Creek Transit Center, Fair Lakes, Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax Corner, Ridge Top Road, and Whole Foods.
  • This is the only Gunston Mason route operating during the Spring 2022 semester.
  • Route will begin at 7:15 a.m. from Fair Lakes instead of 6:15 a.m. as in past semesters.

Mason Square (Arlington)/Fairfax

  • Provides non-stop service between Sandy Creek and (new for Spring 2022) Rappahannock River Lane (Fairfax) and Van Metre Hall (Mason Square, Arlington).
  • Operates Monday-Friday only
  • One bus with service every two hours

West Campus

  • Sunday, January 23: Special one-time Sunday service from noon until 8 p.m. with service every 30 minutes.
  • Weekday service begins Monday, January 24.
  • Service from 7 a.m.-11 p.m.
    • Last departure from West Campus, 10:45 p.m.
    • Last departure from Presidents Park, 11 p.m.

On-Demand Shuttles

  • Mason Shuttles offers an on-demand shuttle service.  This is a shared-ride service with designated pick-up and drop-off locations on the Fairfax Campus and at nearby locations off-campus. Does not serve the Arlington or Science and Technology campuses.
  • On-Demand is moving to a weekend-only service that will begin on Saturday, January 22. There will be no weekday on-demand shuttles during the Spring 2022 semester.
  • The stops that the on-demand shuttle serves for Spring 2022 are more focused on and immediately around the Fairfax Campus.
  • There is one bus on the route.

How it works:

  • Download the Transloc app.
  • Click View On-Demand Services and choose Mason Shuttles on Demand
    • Create your account using your Mason email address
    • Enter a textable phone number; it’s how the app will contact you if needed.
  • On the app, select from a range of pick-up and drop-off locations to request your ride.
  • The app will provide an estimated pick-up time and will adjust the time if conditions change.

Alternative Transportation Options

CUE Bus:

  • Students and employees can ride any of the four Fairfax City CUE buses to and from the Rappahannock River Lane stop throughout Fairfax City and to the Vienna Metro stop for free simply by presenting their Mason ID. Masks are required.

Short Term Parking
For students, faculty, and staff who do not require parking on campus on a regular basis, there are daily, weekly, and monthly options available online.  Hourly visitor parking is available in all Parking Decks at Fairfax and in Van Metre Garage at the Arlington Campus for $3/hour with a $15 daily maximum. The West Campus lot is the lowest priced daily parking at $3/day and can be purchased online or by using the ParkMobile app. A daily permit and ParkMobile options are available for the Field House lots at $5/day and Lots L and K for $9/day. At the SciTech Campus, there is daily parking for $6/day or, utilizing ParkMobile, $2 for the first hour with an additional $1 per hour to the $6 daily maximum.  
Science and Technology (SciTech) Campus Parking

  • Fairfax-SciTech General permits, Lot I, Lot J, Lot R, and reserved parking deck permits are valid in the Occoquan, King, Discovery, Hylton, and Tower parking lots.
    • Please follow signage in these lots as parking spaces may be designated for various uses or permits.
  • Beacon Hall resident parking permit holders may only park in the Beacon Hall resident lot or the Tower Lot.
    • The southeast side (left side facing the building) of the Shops parking lot at Beacon Hall is for retail parking only.

Arlington Campus Parking
One must work or be attending class at the Arlington Campus to be eligible to purchase an Arlington Campus parking permit. Access cards are needed for both the Van Metre and Smith garages at Arlington, depending on the permit. Visitor parking is only available in the Van Metre garage at $3/hour with a $15 daily maximum.

    • Fairfax-SciTech Campus permits are not valid at the Arlington Campus without authorization from Parking Services.
