Thanksgiving Transportation 2019

Mason offers affordable transportation to regional cities for the Thanksgiving holiday. Destinations include a number of Virginia cities such as Richmond, Christiansburg, and Virginia Beach as well as Philadelphia and New York. Buses will leave on both Tuesday, November 26 and Wednesday, November 27 to regional cities and return on Sunday, December 1. For a complete list of destinations, departure times, and pickup locations, please visit 2019 Thanksgiving Regional Transportation.

Additionally, Mason’s Burke Centre VRE shuttle travels from the Fairfax campus to the Burke train station, and you can take a connecting AMTRAK or VRE train from there. Burke is on the VRE Manassas line.

Public transportation to area airports is available on the Airport Transportation page.  For information on transportation options out of Union Station in DC, please visit Union Station Ground Transportation.  Union Station is accessible via Metro; you can take the Mason Shuttle or CUE Bus to Vienna (orange line), transfer at Metro Center to get on the red line and get off at Union Station. A Metro map is available through WMATA.

You always have access to Zimride which is the University’s free rideshare network for students, staff, and faculty. You can sign up with your Mason NetID to find others in the area with whom to carpool and save money on gas. Post a ride during the month of November and you will automatically be entered in Zimride’s 2019 Zimsgiving Post A Ride Sweepstakes and have a chance to win a $200 Amazon E-Gift Card, one of three $100 Amazon E-Gift Cards, or one of six $50 Amazon E-Gift Cards.  Zimride’s  official sweepstakes rules are available here.

The Thanksgiving holiday will also bring modifications to the Mason Shuttle Schedules including some changes to where people with West Campus and “General Resident Lite” (i.e. Lots K, M, O, and P) permits can park beginning on Friday evening, November 21 (through 7am on Monday, December 2).  While you can continue to park where your permit is currently valid,  you can also move your vehicle closer in for the holiday weekend.  Important details on shuttle schedules and where you can park are available on Mason Shuttles Thanksgiving Holiday Service Changes.
