Commuter Choice Benefit $125 Maximum Per Month

Per federal tax law, $125 is the maximum allowed monthly amount for the Commuter Choice transit benefit. Any amount above $125 will need to be paid out of pocket. (The expanded transit benefit of $230 expired in December, 2011. Mason generously offered a three month adjustment period for employees to budget for the change in the transit benefit.)

Thank you for using public transportation. We appreciate your commitment to use green modes of transportation and to reducing the impact on Mason's parking infrastructure. If you have any questions about your fringe transit benefit, please feel free to contact Parking and Transportation at transpo@gmu.edu or 703-993-2828.

COMMONWEALTH COMMUTER CHOICE PROGRAM An Executive Order gives full-time state employees in Northern Virginia up to $125 per month to commute by public transit or vanpool. This is a tax-free benefit paid by the state. For more information, contact the Transportation Office via e-mail at transpo@gmu.edu or by phone at 703-993-2828. In order to participate in the Commonwealth Commuter Choice Program, you must first submit the application to the program. Thereafter, you are required to submit the monthly request form by the deadline (usually around the 12th of every month) in order to receive the benefit for the following month. Sign up for efiles announcements to receive the weekly news at Mason. Scroll down to the Subscribe Information. This is how we let you know when the form is due for the upcoming benefit month. You must average two days a week using alternative methods (other than driving alone) to be eligible for two free daily general lot parking permits per month (if you do not own a permit). If you have a parking permit, you will be issued two all-day garage validations per month instead.
