Patriot Bike Check Out Program

Mason Recreation, the Office of Sustainability, and Mason Parking and Transportation are teaming up on Phase 2 of a pilot program to repurpose and reuse some bicycles at Mason.

Last year, the former Patriot Bikeshare bikes were rehabbed through a Patriot Green Grant and five of them were in a pilot bike check out program at the RAC.

Phase 2 of the pilot began in August 2019.  Now you can check out one of 10 bikes from either the RAC or the Aquatics Center (AFC).  Check it out at one location and return it to the location most convenient to you - either the RAC or the AFC.

Anyone from the Mason community with a valid ID can check out a bike Monday through Thursday for one day at no charge.  If you check the bike out on a Friday or Saturday, you don’t have to return it until Sunday night.  You'll receive the bike, a lock, and helmet.

NEW FOR SPRING 2020! Beginning, 1/27/2020, there is a new check out process.  Initially you'll complete an agreement online, but after it's been processed, you can check the bike out at either the RAC or AFC through an online process with each location's front desk staff.  The terms of the agreement are in effect each time you ride.  If you have participated in the program in the past, we will ask that you re-register online to continue using the program going forward.  The new online process will help us track the bikes better and it will allow you to see bike availability and your user history online.

Since this is a pilot program, your feedback is invaluable.  Please share your experience with us at transpo@gmu.edu.

Happy riding!
