Faculty/Staff General-Vernon Smith Garage Permit Regulations

  1. The Mason Square Faculty/Staff General permit is valid in the non-restricted parking spaces within the Vernon Smith Garage located at 3434 Washington Boulevard in Arlington, VA. This parking permit is also valid in the General parking areas on the Fairfax & SciTech campuses.
  2. This parking permit is not valid in service/repair, state vehicle, administrative, reserved spaces, the Van Metre & Fuse Garages, and the Mason Pond and Shenandoah Parking Decks.
  3. Permit holder is always responsible for their vehicle and must pay attention to any special signs regarding parking closures, other temporary restrictions or changes to parking regulations.
  4. Permit is for use by authorized owner only and cannot be transferred to other people.
  5. Permit is not allowed to be resold, duplicated, or altered in any manner.
  6. Your license plate is your parking permit. Your license plate must be associated with your virtual parking permit. You may only register vehicles that you own or possess. Vehicles must be parked with a license plate facing the drive aisle to avoid a citation.
  7. Permit does not guarantee a space in any specific parking area.

Don't back in if your car does not have a front license plate*

* The license plate recognition cameras cannot read plates from behind.

License plate must be facing toward the road for camera recognition. If your vehicle only has one license plate in the front, you must back in your vehicle.

Don't block your license plate*

* The license plate recognition cameras cannot read plates that are partially or fully covered by objects.

Objects, such as bike racks, cannot partial block the license plate. The license plate must be displayed object-free from the area.

Don't place your license plates on your dashboard*

*  License plate recognition cameras cannot read license plates displayed on windshields or windows

License plates show on the dashboard cannot be captured by the camera.

Visitors should only park in designated Visitor Parking areas
