Faculty/Staff (Parking Map PDF)

  • Faculty/staff parking is restricted to employees displaying a valid George Mason University faculty/staff parking permit. Selected special permits are also considered valid in faculty/staff parking areas. Permits are not transferable to other persons.
  • Short-Term Parking Rates: go to the Faculty/Staff Permit Rates for more information.

Payroll Deductions Form

The Payroll Deduction Program allows full-time, benefited, faculty and staff to payroll deduct their parking fees on a pre-tax basis, which reduces their taxable income.

  • Payroll deduction permits are non-expiring and do not need to be updated or renewed every year, except Lot I, Lot J, Lot M/P, Mason Pond Evening, Shenandoah Evening, and West Campus permits which do have to be renewed each year.
  • 18 and 26 pay period cycles are deducted at the 24 pay period rate. During the last part of the Spring Semester, rate adjustments are made to complete annual payments.
  • All payroll deduction rates are based on their respective annual rate.
  • Participants of the payroll deduction program can opt-out when they leave Mason. Permits must be returned to Parking Services in order for deductions to be stopped.

Parking Services will monitor and enforce the faculty/staff permit requirement in all restricted areas. See permit rules & regulations for details.

NOVA Faculty & Staff Parking at Mason

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) faculty and staff employed at George Mason University may obtain a complimentary General Faculty/Staff permit with the purchase of a NOVA faculty/staff virtual permit.

To get the complimentary General Faculty/Staff permit, NOVA faculty/staff must bring in their NOVA faculty/staff ID to the Mason Parking Services office, and they must be classified as a faculty/staff member in Patriot Web at George Mason University as well. Permits must be displayed in a vehicle simultaneously.

Mason Faculty & Staff Parking at NOVA

Mason faculty/staff are eligible to park on NOVA campuses at no charge. Once registered, these permits are good for one year, starting on July 1 of the current year and expiring on June 30 of the following year. Mason faculty/staff may park in any A or B Lot and the visitor lot of their Brault Administration building.

To update information on the registered vehicles with NOVA Parking Services, visit any of the NOVA Parking Office locations or email parking@nvcc.edu.

NOVA Parking Services: 703-323-3123  |  parking@nvcc.edu.

Mason faculty/staff can register up to three vehicles for this program. Upon arriving at a NOVA campus for the first time, a Mason faculty/staff member should report to a campus Parking Office to register their vehicle with the following documentation:

  • George Mason Faculty/Staff ID
  • Vehicle Information (Up to 3): license plate number, make, model, color

Once NOVA Parking has verified and registered your information into the system, a virtual permit will be issued to the applicant.

  • Retirees (15+ years of state service): one year of free general permit parking. Each year after, retirees receive indefinite general permit parking for the production cost of a permit, currently $15 per year (as budget and space permit).
  • Emeritus Faculty: Faculty members duly appointed to emeritus status by the George Mason University Board of Visitors are eligible to receive one free parking permit upon proof of status.

Upon retiring, please visit the Parking Services Office to turn in the pass you had while employed and receive your retiree parking pass.

Please contact Parking Services at 703-993-2710 or parking@gmu.edu for more information.

  • Hang tag is not transferrable.
  • Misuse may result in termination of parking privilege.
  • Retirees may upgrade to a deck or reserved lot permit for the cost difference between general parking and deck or reserved lot parking permit.
  • 15+ retiree hang tags must be renewed annually.
  • One hang tag per retiree.

Visitor Validations Update

Visitor validations for Van Metre Parking Garage and Mason Pond Parking Deck will need to be exchanged for new ones that utilize QR codes.

New visitor rates for all garages took effect on August 8. There is no extra cost for replacing your current validations with the new QR code. Please email parking@gmu.edu and let us know how many validations you have and for which deck, and we’ll work with you to have them replaced.

Special Event Visitor Parking

Visitors may be assigned parking for special events. Parking Services may designate specific parking areas or issue special permits to visitors or to a sponsoring University program/activity for distribution. Individuals visiting the University for Special Events may only park in areas designated for the event by Parking Services or may park in any other paid visitor area at the prevailing rates.

All visitor parking is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the exemption of a lot or the purchase of a validation does not guarantee parking availability. If you are attending an event, please contact the event’s coordinator or host to determine if they are sponsoring parking for the event’s attendees. If you or your department/organization is hosting an event, please see the options below for parking.

Please Note: All event requests are individually reviewed and are subject to approval by the parking services office on a case by case basis. Not all requests may be accommodated based upon the time, date & location of the event.

Free parking is available in Lot K when you are attending a Great Performances at Mason event. Other CFA performances may include free parking for Lot K. Please see the CFA website for details.

During special events at the Eagle Bank Arena, visitors are permitted to park in the general area parking lots surrounding the arena (Lots A, C, K, & L) three hours before and after the event. At all other times, valid Mason parking permits are required in the lots.

ADA-Accessible Parking Requirements (Accessibility Map PDF)

A DMV-issued license plate, hangtag, or other permit is not a valid permit authorizing parking at George Mason University. A George Mason University parking permit is also required when parked at any ADA accessible-designated space on property owned or operated by George Mason University. For short-term and hourly parking rates, go to the visitor parking section for more information.

Mason Students, Faculty & Staff

Individuals may only park in an appropriate ADA-accessible parking space and lot based on permit type. ADA permit rates are the same as all other George Mason University parking permits issued for comparable periods of time.

  • A general lot or reserved lot/garage permit in conjunction with a DMV-issued ADA permit is required to park in ADA-accessible spaces on the East Campus.
  • Short-term daily, weekly, or monthly general or Lot L/K permits are also valid in ADA accessible spaces in conjunction with a DMV-issued ADA permit on the East Campus.
  • West Campus, Lot M, Lot P, and Field House permits are not valid in East Campus ADA accessible spaces except when those permits are valid in general lots.
  • See Permit Regulations for specific permit rules.

When parking in ADA-accessible parking spaces on campus, individuals must display:

  • A George Mason University parking permit
  • A DMV-issued ADA permit
  • A valid ADA sticker issued by Mason Parking Services

Visitors

In addition to a DMV-issued license plate, hangtag, or other permit, visitors with disabilities must purchase a temporary parking permit from Parking Services or pay the prevailing rates at visitor parking locations such as meters or the parking decks. For short-term and hourly parking rates, go to the visitor parking section for more information.

Rules & Regulations

Short-term daily, weekly, or monthly general or Lot L/K permits are also valid in ADA accessible spaces in conjunction with a DMV-issued ADA permit on the East Campus. West Campus, Lot M, Lot P, and Field House permits are not valid in East Campus ADA accessible spaces except when those permits are valid in general lots. For temporary parking rates, go to the visitor parking section for more information.

Accessible parking is available in surface lot spaces marked with above-grade ADA signs and/or markings painted on the ground within each space. Only those with lift-equipped vans may park in van lift designated spaces.

Accessible parking is available in the Mason Pond, Shenandoah, or Rappahannock River parking decks, with a valid Mason permit at no additional charge when used with a permit valued at the General permit rate or higher. Please contact Parking Services to make arrangements to park in permit levels in any one of the three parking decks. Those without a permit may use ADA-designated spaces but must pay prevailing rates.

Time-limited spaces are available throughout various areas of the campus. These spaces allow you to park for free of charge for up to 30, 60, and 90 minutes as posted. After the posted time the vehicle must leave the parking space or be subject to ticketing. Vehicles with valid ADA credentials can remain parked in the time-driven zones for up to twice the posted time limit. A valid Mason parking permit is to be displayed whenever signage requires it.

Accessible permits may only be used for and/or by the persons to whom they were issued. Individuals are limited to one ADA permit. Accessible parking is not permitted where stopping, standing, or parking is prohibited to all vehicles, or which is reserved for special types of vehicles. Neither does it apply where parking would clearly present a traffic or safety hazard. Photocopied ADA permits are not valid.

ADA Sticker

Mason employees and students must display ADA stickers issued by Mason Parking Services when parking in ADA spaces on campus. To obtain a complimentary sticker, please provide the following items to Parking Services Office:
  • A valid George Mason University Parking Permit
  • A valid DMV issued ADA placard
  • A valid DMV issued ADA registration card

If you wish to have the sticker mailed to you, please send the documentation to parking@gmu.edu.
